Taking a Picture Using Your Senses (Grades 3+)

Best to have 1 hour in class and 1 hour outside in a stand of trees. ($200.00)

  • It’s time to unplug and take some pictures the old fashioned way: using your senses.

  • This lesson is to bring nature back into your soul by getting to know Mother Nature and slowing everything down and tuning into your senses.

  • Sketchbook of some kind is required to interpret what you are seeing, smelling, touching, hearing, and for the brave, tasting.

  • Children are instructed to find a quiet spot away from any other children or distractions and sit at the base of a tree or something that they are drawn to. After 10-15 minutes of sketching or creating a story, the kids will come back to the group and share with the rest of the class. If they wish not share then they simply say pass.

  • This class is very special and what comes out of the children is sometimes magical. This class would not work for a more anxious group of kids.

*At the end of the lesson, we will create a wonderful nature craft to take home.

Creative Writing and Developing a Mentorship Interpretive Program

Please ask for more details as this program is complex and will take months to complete but worth the effort.

Did you know that if you stop to smell the Ponderosa Pine, you will be reminded of freshly baked cookies. These trees actually smell like vanilla! You can best smell them in the summer when the bark is warm. It is amazing!

At the end of each program you book with me, we do an amazing nature craft. My favorite being mini birch bark canoes and pine needle baskets. There are many other choices such as para cord bracelets, maple seed dragon flys, garden faries, and pine cone crafts to name a few.

This picture is the image which inspired me to write my Legends. I asked myself one day as the sun poked through the trees and shone on raindrops which sparkled through the forest, “If the trees could talk, what would they want to say?” This is how the Legends of the Forest Book series started.
